It's not a deal if you have to spend $80 for a button down shirt in the first place. Thought I'd share the ridiculously nostalgic mix cd I listened to on repeat today:

1. Sweet Avenue - Jets to Brazil

The closest thing we have to "our song," and the last song we danced to at our wedding.

2. At My Most Beautiful - R.E.M.

The first song we danced to at our wedding.

3. Summersong - The Decemberists

This album was released about a month after we started dating, so we listened to a lot of this since it was in my car nonstop for a while.

4. Spit on a Stranger - Pavement

This was playing in my car on our first date. He had never heard much of Pavement but said he really liked it. I obviously melted. Honey I'm a prize and you're a catch and we're a perfect match.

5. Mrs. Potter's Lullaby - Counting Crows

I'm well aware this was written for/about a horrible actress, but we listened to a lot of Counting Crows while driving from Oliver, BC, to Vancouver, on our honeymoon.

6. Wasted State of Mind - ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead

An odd one, but we listened to this on repeat on our first road trip together - somewhere in Canada - on our way to Prince Edward Island. Somehow we ended up on their tour bus after a concert in our early dating days.

7. Little Argument With Myself - Low

Can't really explain this one, but for some reason it's staying on this mix.

8. I Know Very Well How I Got My Name - Morrissey

I had gotten Morrissey tickets as part of my Christmas gift the first year we were married.

9. Let's Get Lost - Elliott Smith

A while back Ryan went on a trip to Canada and I was alone for the first time in the apartment by myself. I caught some awful flu and listened to a lot of Elliott Smith and felt all lonely and sorry for myself.

10. Videotape - Radiohead

1. Put on nail polish and let dry.
2. Dip fingernail in alcohol-basically any will do, vodka is suggested.
3. Press a strip of newspaper big enough to cover the whole nail on to your alcohol soaked nail.
4. Pull off slowly and be really impressed with yourself.
5. Paint top coat if desired.

My love of Jim White may be fading, (his wiki page is worth a read, he's an interesting guy) but I still think this movie is brilliant. It's on my list of things do to today.

I've seen this film at least 6 or 7 times by now. An old friend recommended it to me around the same time he mailed me a southern-folk mix cd with songs from the Searching for the Wrong-Eyed Jesus soundtrack. Whether it was nostalgia or just perfect timing- this movie easily became one of my favorites.

I'm being published in Volume 3.2 of the Relief Journal!
Kind of random how it happened- I wrote the anti-poem as an ending to a 30 page paper on the Church Fathers for a Franciscan at UWM. I submitted it, after getting a bunch of other anti-poems rejected from other journals. I found out like two weeks ago- after getting an email saying I had not yet signed my online contract. (I later found my congratulatory email in my spam box.)

So, during my lunch at work I signed the contract and wrote a really shotty bio:
